S-GAME designed Phantom Blade Zero in a new way, not just a Soulslike game
S-GAME CEO Soulframe made it clear that Phantom Blade Zero is not only a Soulslike game. He said that their focus was on ARPG gameplay where there is a balance of traditional combat and cultural visuals. In the design process, they merged hack and slash mechanics with a multi-layered map structure, which made every level of the game feel like a cinematic experience.
Soulframe said he took inspiration from different genres, but what was made in the end was unexpected even for them. In the visuals, background, and fight sequences of the game, they added strong Wuxia culture based on Chinese martial arts.
