Tinder is bringing its new “double date” feature to more countries to appeal to Gen Z and young women who want a more relaxed way to meet people.
Tinder Introduces Group Chat for Matched Pairs
The feature is now available in a few places and will launch worldwide starting in mid-July. With “double date,” users can team up with up to three friends to form a pair.
These pairs can then swipe right (like) other pairs on the app. If just one person from each pair likes the other, it’s a match.
When two pairs match, Tinder starts a group chat so they can talk and plan a hangout together.
Tinder spent several months testing this feature in different countries and noticed it attracted younger users, especially women, who prefer a more relaxed and social way to meet new people.
New Feature Aims to Create Safer, More Social Experiences
According to the app’s data, almost 90% of people using the double date feature are under 29 years old.
Gen Z, typically defined as those born between 1997 and 2012, now makes up over half of Tinder’s global users.
In recent years, Tinder has been focusing more on keeping Gen Z and women engaged, especially after the pandemic, growing safety concerns, and changing attitudes toward dating among younger generations.
Tinder has added new safety tools like ID checks and a “share my date” feature, which lets users send details of their date, including the time, location, and a photo of their match, to friends or family for extra peace of mind.
Since launching in 2012, Tinder has played a big role in making online dating popular. It is now the most-used dating app in the world, with around 50 million users each month.
The app is based in Los Angeles and is owned by Match Group, the same company that also owns dating apps like Hinge and OkCupid.
During testing, Tinder found that women were three times more likely to like a pair of users than a single profile, and match rates were much higher with the double date feature.
The feature has also helped bring in new users and bring back old ones. Almost 15 percent of people who accepted a double date invite were either new to Tinder or had recently returned to the app.
