Anthropic Introduces Claude Opus 4.5, Its Most Advanced AI Model Yet: Anthropic is releasing a new version of its top artificial intelligence model, designed to handle coding and office work more smoothly than before. The update is part of the company’s effort to stay competitive with OpenAI and Google as they all work to attract business clients.
The new model, Claude Opus 4.5, can take on more complex software engineering tasks, including finding and fixing bugs without needing constant guidance. According to Anthropic, Opus 4.5 is also built to handle complicated multistep jobs across a user’s computer and on the internet.

A Growing Player in Workplace Automation
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has grown quickly. The San Francisco company now supports more than 300,000 business customers who rely on its AI tools to speed up everyday tasks. Its strongest foothold so far has been in programming, where it has earned a reputation as a market leader.
But the competition is heating up. OpenAI continues to push its models forward, and Google recently grabbed attention with the launch of Gemini 3, which impressed many in the AI community for its coding abilities and broader capabilities.
A New Benchmark in Coding Performance
Anthropic says Opus 4.5 has reached what it sees as a new milestone in coding performance. Scott White, head of product for Claude AI models, shared that Opus 4.5 became the first model to outperform every one of the company’s human candidates on a challenging take-home engineering task used during hiring. He did not reveal the details of the assignment but noted that it was designed to take a well-qualified engineer many hours, even when using Anthropic’s own Claude model.
“It’s now crossing an inflection point from how we have to think about the evaluation for software engineering,” White said.
Built for Office Work and Long Tasks
Beyond programming, Opus 4.5 is also designed to help with financial analysis, presentations, spreadsheets, and other office tasks. White said the model is especially useful for long back-and-forth workflows. Instead of creating a rough draft that a person later revises on their own, the model can stay involved throughout the full process of refining and improving the work.
Claude Comes to Excel
Anthropic is also integrating Opus 4.5 directly into Microsoft Excel. The feature is available to business users and to individuals with the Max subscription plan.
Inside Excel, a chat tool allows people to ask Claude to update or edit spreadsheets. This tool had been available earlier to a limited group through an invite-only beta program.
