Apple Wallet Update Promises A Smoother Flying Experience

Apple’s September Event is Almost Here: We’re just a few days away from Apple’s big September event. As always, the spotlight will be on new products, with fresh iPhone and Apple Watch models expected, and maybe even new AirPods.

But it’s not only the hardware that has people excited. The September event also means we’re getting closer to the release of Apple’s latest software updates, first previewed at WWDC back in June. For iPhone users, that’s iOS 26, and along with a new “Liquid Glass” design, it’s bringing plenty of new features.

Apple Wallet is Getting Smarter

One of the standout updates is coming to Apple Wallet. According to a report from 9to5Mac, Wallet will be adding three new features, including Live Activities.

If you’ve flown with an airline like United Airlines, you might already be familiar with Live Activities. They provide real-time updates, like gate changes and boarding information, right on your lock screen. The catch is that not every airline app offers it. That means your travel experience can vary depending on which airline you’re flying with.

What’s New for Boarding Passes?

The upcoming software update will change that by building Live Activities directly into Wallet’s digital boarding passes. That means you’ll get the same reliable experience no matter which airline you choose.

Even better, those boarding passes will be shareable, so a family member or friend can track your flight. That’s something you can currently do through Messages by sharing your flight number, but soon it’ll be built right in.

The passes themselves are also getting smarter. They’ll display more details than before, and you’ll even have access to airport maps.

Keeping an Eye on Your Luggage

Another new feature coming to Wallet is luggage tracking. If your bags are equipped with AirTags, you’ll be able to see them directly in Wallet. And if your luggage goes missing, you’ll have the option to report it.

When Will iOS 26 Arrive?

Apple hasn’t confirmed the official release date for iOS 26 yet. Traditionally, the software rolls out about a week after the new iPhones hit the shelves. If Apple sticks to that pattern, you can expect iOS 26 to arrive the week of Monday, 15 September, hopefully with all these new Wallet features included.
