Google announced today, September 17, that Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 is rolling out for Pixel devices, including the newest Pixel 10 series. This update is shaping up to be a big one, giving beta users a solid preview of what’s coming in December’s Pixel feature drop.
Platform Stability and Fun New Features
Google says this beta brings Android 16 QPR2 to “Platform stability,” a key milestone in the development process. The software has been polished and refined for everyday use, making it more reliable for those testing the beta.

Along with essential security updates, the beta introduces some fun and useful features. One that really stands out is the ability to customize icon shapes. You can tweak your home screen with a range of styles – from simple shapes to playful designs like tiny flower blobs or cookies – giving you more control over how your device looks.
Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 – Fitness and Health Upgrades
Fitness enthusiasts have something to cheer about, too. The beta brings improvements to Health Connect, making it easier to track your steps using your device’s sensors. Google notes this won’t drain your battery as much.
The update also expands exercise tracking, adding metrics like weight, set index, and Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE), so you can monitor your workout progress more effectively.
Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 – Stronger Security for Developers and Users
Google is enhancing security for developers by introducing developer verification, which will become mandatory for app installations in certain regions starting in September 2026. This is designed to prevent malware and scams, following the widespread ad-related issues earlier this year.
User security is getting a boost, too. The update improves SMS OTP protection by delaying delivery of messages containing an SMS retriever hash for three hours in most apps. This stops malicious apps from intercepting OTP codes immediately, keeping your accounts safer.
Who Can Try the Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2
The beta is available on Pixel 6 through Pixel 10 series, as well as the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold. Beta users can download it via an over-the-air update on their devices.
Google Pixel 10: A Smarter Phone
The Pixel 10 continues to set a high standard for smartphones. Powered by the Tensor G5 chip and equipped with new Gemini AI features like Camera Coach and Magic Cue, it makes photography and daily tasks smarter and easier than ever.
