Huawei Pura 80 Series set to launch in China with new HarmonyOS and improved chip
Huawei is ready to bring new models in its premium smartphone series. The company has confirmed that the Huawei Pura 80 series will launch in China on June 11. This time not just the design, but the camera system and chipset are also expected to get major upgrades.
New model, but same iconic camera style

- Pura 80 phones will have the same triangular camera design
- But this time, there will be better sensors, lenses, and image quality
Teaser images confirm that the camera design will be similar, but the internal hardware will be new. Reports say that compared to Huawei Pura 70, the new Pura 80 model will offer advanced camera features that give users better control over photos.
Runs on HarmonyOS Next for a new experience
- HarmonyOS Next is Huawei’s latest version of its own OS
- It’s different from Google’s Android and works on its own
Just like the Pura X foldable device, the Pura 80 series will also run on HarmonyOS Next. This version has a new user interface, better speed, and deeper connection with Huawei’s other products. Android apps won’t work here, but the system is smooth and stable.
Huawei makes a strong return despite US sanctions

- Regained strong position in the local market
- Continued tech development even with global restrictions
Even after US restrictions, Huawei kept working on its research and development. In August 2023, when it launched the Mate 60 series with a powerful 5G chip, many were surprised. Huawei didn’t share chip details, but a third-party teardown showed it was the Kirin 9000s designed by Huawei itself.
Chip details still not confirmed
- No official information has been shared yet
- Many expect a new version of Kirin chip may be used
Experts believe the Huawei Pura 80 will also use a Kirin chip, just like all previous Pura models. Last year’s Mate 70 used the Kirin 9020 chip, which was compared to Apple’s A18 chip. The A18 was faster in processing, but the Kirin 9020 had 14% better memory bandwidth.
Huawei’s strong growth in China, Apple sales going down

- IDC says 12.9 million units were shipped in Q1 2025
- Apple’s smartphone sales may drop by 1.9%
Huawei is now the second-largest smartphone brand in China. Its strong local performance has affected iPhone sales. Experts say Huawei’s new models are becoming a big challenge for Apple, especially as more local users are accepting HarmonyOS.
