Apple’s upcoming iOS 26.4 update focuses on refining the iPhone experience rather than introducing sweeping changes. Based on the latest beta builds, the update brings a mix of AI-led features, usability improvements, and system-level fixes.
Apple Music adds AI-powered playlist creation
The biggest addition in iOS 26.4 comes to Apple Music, where a new feature called Playlist Playground allows users to generate playlists using text prompts based on mood or activity.
A new Concerts section will also highlight nearby live shows based on listening habits, while updates such as full-screen artwork, offline music recognition, and an Ambient Music widget aim to improve everyday use.
Apple Podcasts expands into video
The Apple Podcasts app now supports video episodes natively. Users can switch between audio and video, stream content, and download videos for offline viewing.
Minor additions and design adjustments
The new update in iOS 26.4 includes 8 additional emojis, such as trombone, orca and ballet dancer.
Liquid Glass has also been simplified with the addition of options like Reduce Motion and Reduce Bright Effects, which provide less visually demanding user interfaces. They have also made it easier to find subtitle controls.
In addition, various long-standing usability problems have been addressed (e.g., the iPhone keyboard had recurring issues; the problem causing repeated typing errors has been fixed).
Family Sharing has also changed to allow for more flexibility by using separate payment methods versus a shared payment method. The Reminders app adds an urgent marker to tasks (and the ability to filter by urgency).
Apple Health will now denote your average bedtime over the past 14-days to help you establish a habit.
Additionally, with Stolen Device Protection turned on by default, Apple provides greater security through better protection when no longer in possession of a device without having to manually turn on additional protection features.
CarPlay gets broader AI support
Apple CarPlay will support third-party AI apps such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. These apps, however, will not control vehicle systems and must be opened manually.
iOS 26.4 is a refinement-focused update, combining small feature additions with practical improvements. While not a major overhaul, it addresses everyday usability and adds incremental enhancements across key apps and services.
