Managing separate personal and work conversations has become easier. WhatsApp now allows users to run two accounts on a single smartphone, removing the need to carry two devices or repeatedly log in and out. The feature works smoothly once set up and lets you switch between accounts in seconds.
Here are some simple steps on how to add the second account and how to switch between both accounts.
How To Add a Second WhatsApp Account
Follow these steps to add another account:
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap the small arrow or icon next to your name.
- Select Add Account.
- Tap Agree and Continue.
- Choose your country and enter your second phone number.
- Tap Continue to receive the verification code.
- Enter the six-digit code sent to your number.
- Add your name and profile photo, or skip this step for later.
Once completed, your second account will be active. Both accounts will now run on the same phone.
How To Switch Between Accounts
Switching accounts is quick.
On Android:
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Select Switch Accounts.
- Choose the account you want to use.
On iPhone:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap the icon next to your profile name.
- Select the account you want to switch to.
The account you are viewing is your active account. The other account stays logged in and continues receiving notifications.
Managing Notifications
Even if one account is not open, you will still receive message and call notifications.
When you tap a notification, WhatsApp will ask if you want to switch accounts. Once switched, you can read or respond normally.
If you receive a call on your secondary account, you can choose to ignore it or switch accounts to answer it.
The ability to use two WhatsApp accounts on one phone is useful for people who want to separate work and personal communication.
