Apple’s Foldable iPhone Leak: It’s looking more and more likely that Apple will finally launch a foldable iPhone in September 2026 – and now we’re getting some fresh details about what to expect, thanks to one of the most reliable Apple insiders around.
That source is Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, who reports that Apple’s first foldable iPhone will rely on Touch ID instead of Face ID. The reason? Face ID requires extra sensors that would make the device thicker, and Apple wants to keep it as slim as possible. According to Gurman, the foldable will also drop the SIM card slot entirely, going eSIM-only for the same space-saving reason.
In terms of size, previous leaks suggest the foldable iPhone will measure 4.8 mm when unfolded. That’s a little thicker than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, which comes in at 4.2 mm.

Four Cameras for Every Angle
Gurman’s report also mentions that the foldable iPhone will feature four cameras: one on the outside screen, one on the inside, and two on the back. Earlier rumors claimed both rear cameras would be 48MP, lining up with what Apple has been pushing in recent iPhones.Apple’s Battle with the Crease
One of the biggest reasons it’s taken Apple so long to enter the foldable market is the crease problem. Apple has been determined to make it as unnoticeable as possible, and it seems the company is finally satisfied with its solution.
According to Gurman, the device will use an in-cell touchscreen, which combines the display and digitizer into one layer. That’s the same kind of tech Apple already uses in standard iPhones, and it should mean a “less obvious” crease along with better touch response.

Design, Colors, and the New Modem Chip
Beyond the foldable display and cameras, the phone will also come in two colors – black and white – and will feature Apple’s new C2 modem chip. This chip, expected to debut first in the iPhone 17, promises better efficiency and longer battery life.
A Potential Game Changer
Gurman describes the foldable iPhone as a “game changer” for Apple, predicting that once people make the switch, they “won’t want to go back.” Of course, before Apple unveils this big step forward, all eyes are on the iPhone 17 launch coming next month.
