We’ve all been there – sending a text and immediately wishing we could take it back, only to realize there’s no way to undo it. That frustrating moment might soon be gone, at least in Google Messages.
Undoing Sent Messages: Google Messages to Add Delete for Everyone Feature
It looks like Google Messages is adding a long-awaited feature – the ability to delete RCS chats for everyone. A recent look at the app’s latest version (20250131_02_RC00) shows that soon, users will have two options when deleting a message: “Delete for everyone” and “Delete for me.”
Currently, deleting an RCS chat only removes it from your own device, while the recipient can still see it. But with this update, you’ll be able to delete messages for both parties, similar to WhatsApp.
The Key Difference: Notification Alerts for Deleted Messages
However, there’s an important difference – Google Messages appears to notify recipients when a sender deletes or even tries to delete, a message. On WhatsApp, recipients can tell that a message was deleted but don’t get a separate notification about it. This could feel awkward for those who prefer more privacy.
It’s not yet clear when Google will roll out the RCS chat deletion feature, but since it’s already being developed, it’s likely to be available soon.

Like many of Google Messages’ updates, this one may not seem huge on its own, but it’s the small changes that add up over time. It’s great to see Google finally adding this much-needed feature.
With Samsung Messages and some carrier-specific apps being phased out to make way for Google Messages and RCS, it’s more crucial than ever for Google to keep improving its app.
Additionally, Google is working on another feature that will let you add comments to images and videos, as well as updates to read receipts for clearer visibility.
