iPhone 17’s MagSafe Charging Gets Supercharged But Set To Increase The Flagship’s Price

As we count down the weeks until the iPhone 17 is unveiled, which should happen somewhere in September, we’ve noticed a few fresh leaks. In short, there are two categories of news.

Apple’s iPhone 17 series may be getting an upgrade in wireless MagSafe charging

The first piece of good news is that, in comparison to the iPhone 16 range, Apple’s flagship phone series may be getting an upgrade in wireless MagSafe charging.

Apple has filed regulatory documents in Taiwan for two new MagSafe charger models, A3502 and A3503, as observed by 91mobiles.

Importantly, the chargers meet the Qi 2.2 standard, which results in a significant increase in wireless charging power: 50W, compared to the current iPhones’ maximum of 25W(the current MagSafe tech is limited to Qi 2.0).

The analysts at Counterpoint Research have made a less hopeful prognosis, according to 9to5Mac, which states that the ongoing US tariff problem will be the main reason why the beginning price of an iPhone will increase this year.

Apple will pass on some of the tariff cost to customers, according to Counterpoint Research, though it doesn’t disclose how much the price increase will be or which models might be most impacted. Apple has so far refused to raise the cost of its existing portfolio, which includes the newly released iPhone 16e.

You might wish to start saving money, even if this is all unofficial at this time and the tariff situation may change significantly in September 2025. When the iPhone 16 was released in September of last year, its starting price was $799, £799, or $1,399 AU.

This most recent forecast isn’t particularly shocking because there have been rumors of an iPhone 17 price increase all year. Analysts from Samsung Securities and insiders have both conjectured that the iPhone 17 may cost more than its predecessor due to new features in the device as well as more expenses for Apple and tariffs.
