An alert has been issued for Apple’s MacBook users. Actually, this alert is for users using Google Chrome on MacBook. Researchers at SentinelLabs have identified a new malware named Ferret, which is specifically targeting MacBook users. According to the report, this new malware is being linked to North Korean cyber hackers.
This is how Ferret malware attacks
Ferret malware presents itself as a Google Chrome update, which makes people mistakenly understand it. Because of this, it is easily fooling people. Its coding is done in such a way that it looks like a real Chrome update, which makes users download it thinking it is real. According to the report, this malware often enters the system through fake job sites or other online interactions.
While searching a site, the user is asked to “update Chrome”. As soon as this update is downloaded, Ferret gets automatically installed in the system and starts stealing all the sensitive data in the background.
Apple warned

Apple has informed its users about this malware and has asked them to keep the XProtect feature updated. It is claimed that this can reduce the threat of Ferret. The company has advised to update outdated MacBook systems and use the latest antivirus.
