OnePlus has taken a bold step and removed its iconic Alert Slider. In its place, the company has introduced a customizable AI button called the Plus Key. This isn’t just a physical button, but a part of OnePlus’s new AI vision. A new way to smart capture
The Plus Key activates the AI Plus Mind feature by default. When users press this button, the phone captures a screenshot of the screen, and AI creates a short, intelligent summary of it. Everything is saved in a new app called AI Plus Mind. OnePlus says that in the digital age, where everything is getting scattered, this feature will help smartly organize memories.
Launch starts with OnePlus 13s
This new feature will first launch in the OnePlus 13s, a China-only device. In earlier leaks, it was being referred to as the OnePlus 13 Mini. OnePlus has confirmed that all upcoming OnePlus phones this year will include the Plus Key feature. Devices like OnePlus 14, 14R, or even the OnePlus 15 series if the company skips numbering, could be on this list. According to the expected timeline, these phones will first launch in China and then globally in 2026.
Despite people’s attachment to the Alert Slider, why was this change made?
The Alert Slider was a signature feature of OnePlus phones and was quite popular among users. However, OnePlus believes it’s time to evolve. Arthur Lam, the head of OxygenOS and AI strategy at OnePlus, clarified that the Plus Key is not just a replacement but takes AI integration to the hardware level. He said, “We don’t see AI as just a software feature. It’s a hardware-software combo that makes OnePlus unique.”

Along with the Plus Key, OnePlus has also announced more AI integration features. These include tools like AI Translation, AI Reframe (which smartly crops photos), and AI VoiceScribe (which automatically transcribes phone calls). But among all these, the Plus Key has emerged as the most powerful AI hardware tool so far.
Despite being inspired by the iPhone’s Action Button, OnePlus has made its Plus Key completely different. By removing a beloved feature like the Alert Slider, the company has signaled that AI is now going to be the core of OnePlus’s future.
