Big update to Google Drive, now users will be able to search and access video transcripts

Google Update: If you want to find any specific information in a video saved in Google Drive, then now this task has become even easier. Google has added a new feature to its platform, through which users will be able to directly access and search the transcript of the video.
According to Google, now when you play a video saved in Drive, a transcript will appear in the sidebar based on its caption. It will have text blocks with time stamps, which will show which content is being spoken in the video and when. This will help users understand the video better and access the necessary information quickly.

Google Drive: Searching made easy

Under this new feature, a search bar has also been provided in the transcript sidebar, where users can type any keyword or phrase. After this, the relevant text will be highlighted in the transcript and users can reach the same section of the video by directly clicking on that part.

If a video doesn’t already have captions, users can upload captions themselves or use Google Drive’s automatic captions feature.

When will the new feature be available on Google Drive?

Google has started rolling out this feature from 24 February 2025. It is expected that it will be available to all users by 26 March 2025. This feature will be available to Google Workspace customers, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and all users with personal Google accounts.

This update will improve both the accessibility and usability of video content. This will prove to be very beneficial, especially for those users who want to extract quick and accurate information from the video.
