Google Pixel Watch 3 Review: Finally Getting Smarter, But Still Not Quite There
Ever since the first Pixel Watch dropped back in 2022, I’ve been waiting for Google to make its smartwatch feel less like a fitness tracker with notifications and more like a proactive, AI-powered assistant. The new Pixel Watch 3 doesn’t fully deliver on that dream, but it finally feels like we’re heading in the right direction.
Now available in two sizes (41mm and 45mm), the Pixel Watch 3 brings key upgrades: a larger screen, faster charging (on the smaller model), and better workout tools. It still looks stylish, that same minimal, pebble-shaped design that actually fits a wrist without looking like a sci-fi gadget.
Pixel Watch 3 Key Features
The display is bigger and bezels are smaller, which makes reading texts and glancing at workout stats easier. Charging is faster too, the 41mm model hits 80% in just 30 minutes. Battery life? It’s fine. You’ll get a full day, maybe a bit more, but nothing groundbreaking, especially compared to Garmin’s multi-day watches.

Health and fitness are front and center. New tools like Cardio Load (measuring how hard your heart works during a workout) and Target Load (a goal based on your readiness score) make this watch feel more tailored to your performance, not just logging data. The Readiness Score is now free, no more Fitbit Premium needed.
Custom workouts for outdoor running are a standout. You can create intervals, set goals, and even get AI-generated run suggestions based on your past workouts. The Fitbit app also breaks down detailed stats like stride length and ground contact time. It’s a runner’s dream, if running is your only workout. For indoor cycling, HIIT, or strength training? Customization is still lacking.
And while it’s great for heart rate tracking (it matched a chest strap in testing), the Pixel Watch 3 still doesn’t support Gemini, Google’s AI assistant. That’s a strange omission considering how central Gemini has become to Android overall. You’re still stuck with Google Assistant, which works, but isn’t doing anything new here.
Smart Features
The Pixel Watch 3 is fully loaded with essentials: Google Wallet, Maps, Gmail, phone notifications, LTE, GPS, and even a remote for Google TV and support for Nest Cams. The new Morning Brief is a nice touch, offering a daily digest of weather, sleep, and readiness, though it still feels light compared to what Garmin offers with Morning Report.
Google has promised three years of software updates, which is standard but with Pixel phones now getting seven years, the watch definitely feels left out.

Final Verdict
If you’re a casual runner or everyday Android user, the Pixel Watch 3 might be your best smartwatch option right now. It’s polished, comfortable, and smarter than before. But Google still has work to do especially with AI integration, better support for non-running workouts, and longer software support.
