WhatsApp is testing a new feature that could make cleaning up your chats a whole lot easier. Soon, you will be able to check how much storage each conversation is taking up directly from the chat window itself.
The update, which was spotted rolling out to Android users last week, could be a big time-saver for anyone constantly battling a full phone. Large files will now be visible right where they were sent, meaning you can easily find and delete data-heavy messages and media without digging through multiple menus.
So, if you have a group chat filled with endless memes, video clips, or photos of things to buy and sell, this change will make it much simpler to mass delete and free up space.

Easier Access to Storage Details
The new feature was first reported by WABetaInfo, a site that closely tracks WhatsApp updates. According to their report: “This feature is designed to give users quicker access to their shared media without having to navigate through the general storage settings. It allows them to view, sort, and delete large files on a per-chat basis, helping to free up space more efficiently. By integrating this functionality directly into the chat interface, WhatsApp simplifies storage management and encourages users to keep their conversations organised in real time.”

Currently, users can already see storage usage for individual chats by going to Settings → Storage and Data → Manage Storage, but this new option makes it more convenient by putting that information right inside the chat itself.
You can already view “Media, Links, and Docs” from within a conversation, but it does not show how much space those files actually take up. The new update aims to fix that.

Other New WhatsApp Features
This is not the only upgrade WhatsApp has rolled out recently. Just last month, Meta introduced a message translation feature that lets users translate texts without leaving the app. Now, you can simply long-press a message written in another language to see the translation instantly.
Previously, users had to copy and paste the message into a separate app, which was slow and frustrating. Still, there is room for improvement, as the feature currently requires navigating through a few menus. Many users are hoping for a simpler one-tap translation option similar to how Instagram handles captions.
Back in August, WhatsApp also announced new scam protection tools after deleting over 6.8 million accounts linked to “criminal scam centres,” many of them based in Southeast Asia.
With these steady improvements, WhatsApp is clearly focused on making the app not only more secure but also more convenient for everyday users. The new storage feature, in particular, will be a welcome change for anyone tired of running out of space.
