Google Testing New AI Mode for Search with Gemini 2.0
Google's new AI mode, powered by Gemini 2.0, is being tested, offering conversational answers with URLs. It may revolutionize search with advanced reasoning capabilities.

New AI mode may come soon in Google Search, testing is going on at war level
Google has reportedly started internally testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) mode for its search platform. The feature was first spotted as a leak in December 2024. The AI mode will provide users with a full-screen interface where they can ask complex and reasoning questions.
This AI will answer in a conversational style and will also show URLs related to the topic, allowing users to get more in-depth information. According to reports, this feature will be different from AI Overviews, which currently appears at the top of Google Search.
Possible entry of AI mode in Google search
According to a report by 9U5Google, Google is currently testing this AI mode internally. The company has invited its employees to use this feature and test it. In an internal email from Google, the AI mode is defined as “Search intelligently researches for you, organizing information into easy-to-use pieces and providing links to a variety of sources on the web.”
Google also provided example questions to help users understand how to use the tool. For example: “How many boxes should I buy to feed 6 adults and 10 children and have enough second servings for everyone?”
AI mode powered by Gemini 2.0
Google said in an email that the AI mode will be powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.0, which will be equipped with advanced reasoning and thinking capabilities. Along with this, a screenshot was also shared, which gives an early glimpse of this user interface (UI). However, this UI is not final and changes can be made to it now.
Possible features and interface
- The AI mode will appear along with other search filters (Images, Videos, News).
- Tapping on it will open a full-screen interface, where Gemini AI will respond as a chatbot.
- URLs will also be shown alongside the answers, allowing users to explore the sources.
- There will be a text field to ask follow-up questions.
- Microphone support in mobile apps, allows users to ask questions with voice commands.
- “Thumbs-up” and “Thumbs-down” icons will also be available for feedback.
