Samsung Galaxy S25 vs Samsung Galaxy S24: Is the Upgrade Worth It?
Samsung just released its newest S series phones. The most affordable option is the Samsung Galaxy S25, which sits below the S25+ and the top-of-the-line S25 Ultra.
In this article, we’ll compare the Galaxy S25 to its predecessor, the Galaxy S24, to see how these two smartphones stack up. We’ll help you decide whether it’s worth upgrading your S24 to the latest model.
Price
The Samsung Galaxy S25 goes on sale February 7th, with pre-orders available now. The phone starts at £799 for the 128GB model, £859 for 256GB, and £979 for 512GB.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 launched in February 2024, starting at £724 for the 128GB model and £784 for 256GB. With the S25 out now, you might be able to find the S24 at a discount.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy S25 doesn’t look much different from the Galaxy S24. However, it is a little bit thinner and lighter.
The Galaxy S25 measures 146.9 x 70.5 x 7.2mm and weighs 162g, while the S24 measures 147.0 x 70.6 x 7.6mm and weighs 167g.
The Galaxy S25 also comes in more colors, including Navy, Icyblue, Silver Shadow, and Mint. You can also get exclusive colors from Samsung.com, such as Blueblack, Coralred, and Pinkgold. The S24 comes in Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Onyx Black, and Marble Grey, with exclusive colors on Samsung’s website like Sapphire Blue, Jade Green, and Sandstone Orange.
Performance
The biggest difference between the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S24 is the new chipset.
The Galaxy S25 uses Qualcomm’s most powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset in all regions. The Galaxy S24 uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy in some areas and the Exynos 2400 in others (including the UK).
According to Samsung, the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy makes the S25 Series the most powerful S Series phone yet. Users can expect a 37% increase in CPU performance, a 30% improvement in GPU performance, and a 40% uptick in AI performance. This allows the phone to process more AI features on the device itself, rather than having to rely on the cloud.
RAM
The Samsung Galaxy S25 also has more RAM than the S24. All Galaxy S25 models come with 12GB of RAM.
The Galaxy S24 only has 8GB of RAM. Galaxy S24 users who wanted more RAM had to upgrade to the S24+ or S24 Ultra.
Camera and Battery

Aside from the differences mentioned above, the Galaxy S25 shares many of the same specs as its predecessor. So, you might not need to upgrade if the camera or battery life are your main concerns.
Both phones have the same triple rear camera system: a 50-megapixel wide camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
Both phones also have 4000 mAh batteries and support up to 25W fast charging. This doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll offer identical battery life, as factors like the display and chipset can also affect battery drain. We’ll have to wait for our full S25 review to see how these two phones compare in our battery benchmarks.
Early Verdict
We can’t say for sure which phone has the best display, performance, or battery life until we test the Galaxy S25 ourselves.
However, based on the specs, it seems like this is a minor update to the line. The biggest focus this year seems to be on performance, especially AI performance.
