How iPhone Users Can Now Text and Use Apps With Zero Mobile Signal

iPhones are one of the most used smartphones made by Apple that combine a computer, digital camera, and more.

It runs on Apple’s iOS operating system and is known for its high-quality design, premium camera and secure App store.

Now, with the new UK O2 network, iPhone owners can access their smartphones, even in places that have no signal.

How can iPhone Users Access the Networks

This new feature is available from 28th May to all the O2 Pay monthly users with an iPhone. This uses Elon Musk’s Starlink Satellite to connect people if they are in a place where there is no network.

With this satellite, you can exchange text messages and use data services across some of the selected apps. But you can only use all this when a Satellite connection is actively in use.

How Much Does iPhone Satellite Connectivity Cost?

This iPhone satellite connectivity costs only $4.2 per month, as an O2 Bolt. If a user takes this iPhone O2’s Ultimate Plan tariff, these services will start from today without any extra charges.

Under this plan, all the iPhone models that have been released since 2021 are eligible, except for the iPhone SE.

Which Apps Are Accessible Through Satellite Connectivity?

This iPhone O2’s satellite connectivity can be used on below listed apps:

  • AccuWeather
  • AllTrails
  • Apple Compass
  • Apple Fitness
  • Apple Maps
  • Apple Messages
  • Apple Music
  • Apple Weather
  • BBC Weather
  • Google Maps
  • Facebook Messenger
  • WhatsApp
  • X (formerly Twitter)
  • Yahoo Mail

Chris Bournes Speaks On the Satellite Services

Chris Bournes, Commercial Director at Virgin Media O2, has said, “Earlier this year, we made history with the switch on of O2 Satellite. Expanding the service to iPhone users is a major step forward in making this new, groundbreaking technology accessible to more customers.”

He also said, “ Whether you are hiking, travelling or in any remote part of the UK, O2 Satellite helps to ensure you can stay connected when you need it the most.”

He also explained that this service would work as “an additional layer of resilience” in the event of any disaster or network outage.

The firm also explained that the introduction of the O2 satellite has expanded the company’s coverage of the UK landmass to 95%.

All the newly launched smartphones, including iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S25, S26 and Google Pixel 9, 10 have satellite compatibility in it. But giving the services at the time of need is totally up to network providers.

Virgin Media O2 History

Virgin Media O2 was formed on June 1, 2021, through a massive £31.4 billion merger, marking the largest UK telecommunications deal in a decade. The company operates as a 50-50 joint venture between corporate giants Liberty Global (owners of Virgin Media) and Telefónica (owners of O2 UK).

By uniting Virgin Media’s nationwide entertainment and high-speed broadband infrastructure with O2’s award-winning mobile network, the merger created a powerhouse capable of challenging market leaders like BT and EE. Following the integration, the company successfully migrated all legacy Virgin Mobile customers directly onto the main O2 network.
