ASUS And Xreal Just Revealed New AR Gaming Glasses - Here’s What They Offer

Smart glasses are evolving into a new warfare ground in consumer technology, as companies expand much deeper into augmented reality and immersive gaming experiences. Although most AR glasses to date have been designed more for productivity or consuming media, now gaming brands are attempting to create portable virtual gaming setups for these glasses.

This is what ASUS and Xreal are developing with their recently launched ROG Xreal R1 smart glasses. The companies collaborated on this at CES 2026, and now the gaming-oriented augmented reality glasses are being made available for pre-order.

Design

According to ASUS, the ROG Xreal R1 glasses are built to work as an extension of the ROG Ally handheld gaming console.

The goal is to deliver a more immersive “wearable gaming monitor” experience while keeping the portability of handheld gaming intact. ASUS says it worked closely with Xreal to unify both hardware and software for a smoother overall experience.

Display

The ROG Xreal R1 includes a 60mm micro-OLED display capable of producing a virtual screen up to 171 inches.

The ROG Xreal R1 supports 240Hz refresh rate, which will minimize motion blur caused by fast movement in mobile games or video games. ASUS promises smooth visuals with a low-latency gaming experience.

There are different options for customizing the display to adjust brightness, size, aspect ratio, and effects in real time on the AR glasses.

According to ASUS, the display covers approximately 95% of the viewer’s total focus area which results in an immersive viewing experience when using the glasses for gaming.

Electrochromic Lens Technology

One of the more unique features is the Electrochromic Lens technology integrated into the glasses.

This allows the lenses to become transparent whenever users look away from the screen. Once attention returns to the display, the surrounding area automatically darkens again to help maintain focus during gameplay.

ROG Control Dock Brings PC-Like Controls

ASUS is also introducing the new ROG Control Dock system alongside its DisplayWidget Centre software.

This setup lets users customise and manage their virtual display using a keyboard and mouse. Features like AI-enhanced crosshairs and advanced display tuning are also included to create a more PC-style gaming experience inside the AR glasses.

Real-Time 2D-To-3D Conversion

With ROG Xreal R1, users have the ability to transform from a 2D environment into a three-dimensional environment instantly by using their standard 2D games and graphics; this is done through a process known as “stereoscopic 3D” conversion.

When using the ROG Xreal R1, you can choose either to position your virtual display in a static fashion or to use motion tracking for a more engaging viewing experience. The glasses come equipped with various other tools, including frame rate enhancement, variable tinting options, and more.

Bose Audio Partnership

Bose teams up with ASUS and Xreal on their audio performance.

According to both companies, their audio set up helps provide better clarity for directional gaming sounds such as footsteps, explosions, and environmental sounds.

Price And Availability

The ROG Xreal R1 gaming glasses are currently available for pre-order through Best Buy for $849.

Pre-orders are also expected to go live through the Xreal Official Store. While the price tag places the device firmly in premium territory, ASUS and Xreal appear to be betting big on the future of immersive wearable gaming.
