Gemini to Replace Google Assistant: Major AI Shift Coming Soon
Google to discontinue Google Assistant, introducing Gemini as the new AI-powered assistant for Android devices, bringing enhanced AI interaction to phones, tablets and more.

Gemini will replace Google Assistant, change is happening soon
Google recently announced that its classic Google Assistant will be discontinued by the end of this year. In its place, Gemini will be launched as the default assistant app for Android. Google has given information about this important change in its blog, stating that Google Assistant will no longer be available on new Android devices and existing devices will also not be able to use it in the future.
Tablets and other devices will also be updated in Gemini
Not only phones, but tablets, devices used in cars, and other connected devices like headphones and smartwatches will also be upgraded to Gemini. Google has clarified that in the coming time, home devices, such as speakers, displays and smart TVs, will also become a part of this new AI assistant, making its use even more widespread.
Gemini: New AI-powered assistant
The main reason behind replacing Google Assistant with Gemini is the upgrade of AI technology. Brian Marquardt, Senior Director of Gemini App, said that when Google Assistant was launched in 2016, it provided a natural interaction through natural language processing and voice recognition. Now, almost a decade later, Google has redefined it once again by adopting new ways of interaction with generative AI technology. He says that Gemini will become your personal and AI-powered assistant, which will be able to understand our needs better over time.
Google Assistant will remain for older devices
However, this new AI assistant will not be for everyone. Google has said that users who are using Android 9 or older versions, and devices with less than 2GB of RAM, will still be able to use Google Assistant. However, there will be a possibility of change for these users in the future as well.
A sign of the future: Gemini is available by default on many new devices
For some time now, Gemini has been launched as the default assistant on new devices from brands like OnePlus, Vivo, and Samsung, which makes it clear that Gemini will be widely used in the coming times. Google also says that Google Assistant will not be fully accessible after a certain date, which will be revealed soon.
With Gemini, Google is set to give a new direction to its user experience, which will set new standards for AI technology in the future.
