Google Maps Now Uses Your Screenshots to Help Plan Trips with Gemini AI

Taking screenshots is a very common way to save important information or details about a trip for later. But over time, these screenshots get lost or forgotten. But Google is trying to fix this with a new feature powered by Gemini AI on Google Maps.

Google believes this feature will help you make better use of the “travel blogs, news articles, or social media posts” you’ve saved as screenshots while planning a trip. Using AI to understand the images, Google has come up with a solution. Here’s how it works.

How Gemini AI Works with Your Screenshots

The new feature on Google Maps doesn’t have a specific name yet, but it helps you make better use of your screenshots. Google uses Gemini AI to identify places mentioned in your screenshots and saves them to a list for you, as per Google. This makes it easier for you to plan your trips or save locations for your trip directly just on Google Maps.

To use this feature, go to the “You” tab in Google Maps, where you will see a list of your screenshots with a “Try it out!” label. To get started, you will need to give Google Maps permission to access your photos. Once you do that, it should work automatically from there.

How to Start Using It

Whenever you take a screenshot with any location information then just open Google Maps. A pop-up message will appear telling you that it has places ready for review if Maps recognises the place. You can tap “review” to decide if you want to save the image to your screenshots list. You can also add these images to other lists for later.

Uploading Screenshots Manually

If you want, you can upload screenshots manually. Just go to the “Screenshots” list under the “You” tab in the app. From there, you can upload your screenshots. The process remains the same.

Easier Trip Planning with Google Maps

Now, saved places will be shown directly on your map with this feature, or you can access them through the “You” tab when you’re on the go. This makes trip planning much easier.

Google Maps’ new feature powered by Gemini AI will help make trip planning easier by organizing your screenshots and identifying important places from them. Now, you won’t have to worry about losing useful travel information. This new feature could be really helpful for anyone trying to organize their travel plans.
