Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO and co-founder of Facebook is preparing to present the company’s latest augmented reality prototype. In a recent interview with a YouTuber, the Meta CEO stated that the company is “almost ready” to showcase its next product.
In an interview with YouTuber Kane Sutter, commonly known as Kallaway, CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted that Meta is approaching “full holographic” glasses.
“Every person I’ve shown it to thus far responded positively. According to Business Insider, Zuckerberg stated, “I’m really looking forward to showing that to more people.”
The journal previously stated that the company might showcase the initial version of “true” AR glasses, known internally as Orion. This was reportedly addressed throughout Meta’s annual Connect conference.
Meta is working on a “consumer version” of their prototype
The study stated that these spectacles may not be available for purchase for some time.
“We’re focused on building the full consumer version of it rather than selling the prototype,” Zuckerberg said, adding that the prototype is “not the most stylish” and will likely have wider frames to handle the AR technology.
Zuckerberg further clarified that the product is “unmistakably glasses” rather than a headset.
Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s CTO and head of the company’s Reality Labs branch, said that the future AR glasses could be “the most advanced piece of technology on the planet in its domain.”
Meta already sells Meta Ray-Bans
A new generation of smart glasses developed together with one of the world’s most well-known sunglasses makers, just as the northern hemisphere approaches winter, is the kind of thinking that could only come from a California company like Meta.
The Facebook parent company already produces Meta Ray-Bans, which include cameras and embedded AI but no display.
“Previously, I assumed we required all of the holograms for presence. “But AI has made such big leaps, I think… even something as simple as a product will have more appeal sooner,” Zuckerberg added.
Zuckerberg highlighted that it would take several years for the products to produce significant returns.
