PlayStation 5 Pro is designed for those gamers seeking top-notch graphics and faster performance. It aims to make the game more realistic and immersive.

Specifications and Features

The PS5 Pro features the Ryzen 2 CPU which made its debut on the original model. It comes with an upgraded Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) with 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory than the original version. This allows for up to 45% faster rendering, offering smoother visuals and a more responsive gaming experience. This is the most notable difference between the PS 5 and Pro model.

The Pro model comes with a 2TB SSD, which is almost double the storage capacity than the original PS 5. It is also packed with advanced ray tracing capabilities that offers real-life-like shadows and reflections, refractions, making everything on the screen more realistic. Sony claims the new system can cast light rays up to three times faster than the standard PS5.

Sony also announced a new AI-driven image upscaling solution called the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Developed in-house, it uses AI and machine learning to upsample images to a higher resolution. This will allow gamers to play their favourite games at higher frame rates without losing out on image quality, as some titles are now capable of running in 4K at 60fps.

PlayStation 5 Pro is backed by Wi-Fi 7 certification as well as support for VRR and 8K displays. The new standard might come in handy when downloading massive titles to the console’s SSD. This is an upgrade from the older console that supports Wi-Fi 6 networks.

Sony’s new console also packs some enhancements to the ports. The original PlayStation 5 is equipped with one USB-C and three USB-A ports, whereas the Pro model features three USB-C ports and one USB-A port on the back.

Makers also announced a new PS5 Pro Game Boost feature, which can be applied to more than 8500 PS4 titles to boost their resolution and frame rate for the latest model.

The PS5 Pro features 2TB internal storage compared to 1TB on the standard model.

Price and Availability

The PlayStation5 Pro is retailed at $700, which is 56% more than the $450 price of the digital PS5. The console will go on sale starting November 7, 2024, with pre-orders commencing on September 26.

Notably, the announcement comes at a time when Sony is experiencing slightly lower sales of its consoles. The company  has projected sales of 18 million PS5 units, down from 20.8 million the previous year. The company might be hoping to boost its sales rate with premium features and advanced capabilities it has included in the PS5 Pro model to deliver the best possible experience to gamers.
