Motorola’s Edge Lineup Gets A Boost With Android 16: It’s definitely update season. Samsung has started rolling out One UI 8 based on Android 16 for its top devices, and Google kicked off its own Android 16 rollout a couple of months ago. Now, Motorola is stepping in with its latest Android 16 update for some of its Edge series smartphones.
Android 16 Arrives for Motorola Edge 60 Pro, Fusion, and 50 Pro
On October 8, Motorola announced that the Android 16 update is now officially rolling out for the Edge 60 Pro, Edge 60 Fusion, and Edge 50 Pro. This might come as a surprise to some, since Motorola isn’t exactly known for being one of the fastest when it comes to Android updates. But the company says it’s “reaffirming its commitment to timely software updates” with this rollout.

Clean, Secure, and More Connected
So, what’s new in this update? According to Motorola, Android 16 for its devices focuses on simplicity, security, and connectivity. One of the standout features is Notification Auto Grouping – this smart tool automatically groups multiple notifications from the same app when they come in quickly, making your screen a lot less cluttered.
Instant Hotspot and a Fresh UI
Motorola is also introducing Instant Hotspot, which lets you turn on the hotspot on your Motorola phone straight from your Android tablet or Chromebook, as long as they’re signed into the same Google account. It’s a handy feature for people who are always on the go and want seamless internet access across devices.
You’ll also notice that parts of the system interface and settings have gotten a small refresh, making the experience feel a bit more modern and polished.
Better Battery Stats and Device Health Insights
If you love keeping track of how your phone’s performing, you’ll like the expanded battery insights now available. Motorola says you can now check details like battery health and access new tools for checking the condition of various components in your phone. This update also brings new device diagnostics, so you can spot problems before they get serious.

New Modes and Security Features
Android 16 on Motorola phones also brings Modes like Sleeping, Driving, and Working, which let you tailor your phone’s behavior based on what you’re doing. Plus, there’s now easier access to Advanced Protection settings, which include anti-theft tools and identity verification features right inside the Settings app.
More Devices Will Get the Update Soon
Right now, the update is only available for the three Edge series models mentioned earlier. Motorola hasn’t said exactly when the update will reach other phones like the Moto Razr Ultra or the Moto G series, but chances are it won’t be too long before they get it too.
So if you’ve got a compatible Motorola Edge phone, keep an eye out for that update notification – there’s a lot to look forward to.
