Asus just unveiled its Wi-Fi 8 gaming router, which is called the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro. This is happening right after TP-Link talked about its Wi-Fi 8 hardware, which means Asus is getting ready for a change.
The ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro looks a lot like the top Wi-Fi 7 gaming router from Asus, which is the ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Pro. The new ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro has a strong gaming look, with eight antennas on the outside, a big LED panel on the front heatsinks, and special buttons to control it and the Republic of Gamers logo.
Unnamed Wi-Fi 8 Chipset
While Asus has not said what exact chipset is powering the router, the company confirmed that the GT-BN98 Pro uses generation Wi-Fi 8 technology.
Asus has not published test results yet, but it did highlight some improvements expected from the Wi-Fi 8 standard.
The company says the router can deliver up to twice the speed compared to older routers and offers up to two times better coverage for Internet of Things devices and also for IoT devices, which is a big plus.
The company also claims that Wi-Fi 8 will provide delay through a technology called Multi-AP Coordination and improved performance in crowded wireless areas where many devices are connected and compete for bandwidth, and this is really important for Wi-Fi 8.
These upgrades are mostly due to the capabilities of the Wi-Fi 8 standard itself, rather than special Asus networking technologies, and the Wi-Fi 8 standard is really making a difference here.
Gaming-Focused AI Features
Asus is doing a lot of things to help gamers with their system. They have something called AI Game Boost that’s really cool. This thing can figure out what is going on with the internet and make sure that games are working well, whether you are using a wire or not.
The router is also very smart because it can change how it works based on what people are doing on the internet at the time. For example, if a lot of people are watching videos, it will make sure that games are still working well.
Asus also has something called GTNet that helps games run smoothly. It does this by making sure that the internet is not too busy when you are playing games. This means that you should have a better time playing games online.
High-End Wired Connectivity
The ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro has Wi-Fi 8, which is the main thing people are talking about.. This router also has a lot of other ways to connect to the internet with wires.
The router has these features:
- Four 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports
- One 1 Gigabit Ethernet LAN port
- One special 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN/Gaming port
- One 10 Gigabit Ethernet WAN port
One of the 2.5 GbE ports can also be used as a WAN connection if you need it to.
For people who want faster speeds, Asus lets you combine the two 10 GbE ports into one 20 Gbps connection.
The router also has:
- One USB 2.0 port
- One USB 3.0 port
These options give you a lot of flexibility for local networking, storing files and setting up your gaming equipment.
Expected Launch Timeline & Price
Asus has not said how much the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro will cost or when it will be released. People in the industry think that the first Wi-Fi 8 router, from Asus, will come out in late 2026 or early 2027.
