WhatsApp Update: WhatsApp is soon going to bring a big update for its users. This update will be related to the users’ profile. According to WABetaInfo, users will soon get the option to add their social media profile links in WhatsApp. This new feature is being tested on the beta version of WhatsApp iOS, where users will have the option to add links of social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook in the profile section of their WhatsApp account. This feature is currently in testing mode and its final version is expected to be rolled out in a few weeks.
Testing going on in beta version
According to the report, the new section will be accessible directly from WhatsApp’s profile settings, allowing users to add links to platforms like Instagram. While only Instagram links are available in the beta version, other meta platforms like Facebook and Threads could be included in the final release. It is unclear whether WhatsApp will allow adding links to third-party social media apps.
After the update, WhatsApp users’ profiles will also have an “About” section along with their name and phone number, which will show the social media profile links saved by them. This feature will be optional and users who do not want to share social media links can choose not to add any links. For those who opt in, WhatsApp will provide the same privacy settings as with profile pictures, so that user information is protected.
The new feature will be completely secure
WhatsApp already allows business accounts to show social media profile links, however, it requires an authentication process. According to the report, regular accounts in the testing version currently do not require authentication to add links. However, WhatsApp may introduce an authentication process for personal accounts before the official release to prevent any misuse.
