Your iPhone already has strong privacy features, but most people barely touch them. The result? Apps quietly track, collect, and share more data than you’d expect. The good news is you can fix a lot of this in a few minutes just by tweaking the right settings.
Here are the ones that actually make a difference.
iPhone Privacy Settings
Here is the list of 11 iPhone settings that you should always check in your device.
- Turn off app tracking
Go to Settings>Privacy & Security>Tracking and switch it off.
This stops apps from tracking your activity across other apps and websites. It’s one of the easiest ways to cut down targeted ads and hidden data collection.
- Use “Sign in with Apple”
Rather than signing in with your email address on every site, use Apple’s login option. This provides you with the opportunity to keep your email hidden by generating a random email so that the various apps cannot gain access to your original email account.
- Limit location access
Don’t give apps permanent access to your location. Set it to “While Using the App”, so they only track you when you’re actually using them.
- Disable precise location where it’s not needed
Apps like weather or shopping don’t need your exact location. Turn off “Precise Location”, and they’ll only get a rough area instead of your exact spot.
- Review app permissions regularly
Take a quick look at which apps can access your camera, mic, contacts, and photos. If something feels unnecessary, remove it. Most apps ask for way more than they actually need.
- Enable Mail Privacy Protection
Turn on “Protect Mail Activity” in your Mail settings. This blocks senders from knowing when you open emails and hides your IP address.
- Use Safari’s built-in privacy tools
Safari already blocks cross-site tracking and can hide your IP address. Just make sure these options are turned on in your browser settings.
- Turn off Significant Locations
Your iPhone tracks places you visit often. Head to Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations and switch it off if you don’t want that history stored.
- Control Bluetooth access
Some apps use Bluetooth to track nearby devices. Check which apps have access and turn them off for anything that doesn’t need it.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication
Turn on 2FA for your Apple ID. It adds an extra layer of security, so even if someone gets your password, they still can’t access your account.
- Lock sensitive apps with Face ID
Use Face ID or Touch ID to lock apps like Notes, banking apps, and password managers. Even if someone gets into your phone, they won’t get into your important data.
