WhatsApp groups tend to feel more distracting than uplifting in the hectic digital world of today as they soon overflow with memes, messages, and continuous notifications. Deleting a WhatsApp Group
If you’re the admin of a WhatsApp group, you can delete it, but there are a few steps you need to follow first.
Steps to Delete a WhatsApp Group
- Remove All Members:
- Open the group chat and tap the group name.
- Click the menu icon next to each member’s name and select “Remove.”
- Exit the Group:
- Tap the group name again and choose “Exit group.”
- Delete the Group:
- Open the group chat one last time, tap the group name, and select “Delete group.”
What Happens When You Delete a Group
- Chat History: Deleting a group removes it from your Chats list, and all chat history will be wiped from your device.
- Impact on Other Members: When you remove a member or delete the group, it doesn’t change what others see. They will still have access to the group and its history unless they choose to delete it themselves.
- Irreversible Action: Once a group is deleted, it cannot be restored.
Exiting a Group
When you choose to exit a group:
- Only the admins will be notified of your departure.
- Your name and phone number will show up in the “Past members” list for up to 60 days.
If you leave a community that includes the group, you’ll exit all groups within that community as well.
Important Points
- If you are the only admin and you leave, a new admin will be randomly selected from the remaining members.
- If you rejoin the group and wish to regain admin status, you will need to request the new admin to make you one again.
Deleting Groups in a Community
Groups within a community won’t appear in your Chats list. You can find them:
- In the Communities tab.
- In your Chats tab.
- By searching for the group name.
Follow the same steps above to delete the group or remove it from the community.
