iPhone 15 Becomes Best Selling Smartphone Globally In Q3 2024, Check The Top 10 List
iPhone 15 became the world's best-selling smartphone in the third quarter of 2024 as the vanilla model was closely followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro in the rankings.
Apple topped the list for the global best-selling smartphones in the third quarter (Q3) of 2024, according to Counterpoint, a market research firm. The American tech giant notched up the top three spots with multiple models from its iPhone 15 series.
According to the report, iPhone 15 became the world’s best-selling smartphone in the third quarter of 2024 as the vanilla model was closely followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro in the rankings.
Meanwhile, Samsung clinched the most spots (five) in the list, followed by Apple (four), and Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi held one spot.
The top 10 models contributed to a share of 19 percent of the total smartphone market in Q3 2024.
The dominance of Apple and Samsung
Apple has managed to replicate its performance from last year, when iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro were the top 3 phones in Counterpoint’s Q3 2023 data. The iPhone 14 finishes at eighth place.
Samsung saw one of its flagship S series devices make it into the top 10 with Galaxy S24, for the first time since 2018. Meanwhile, the mid-range A series got most of the jobs done for the South Korean company, with the Galaxy A15 4G, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A35 5G, and Galaxy A05 all finding a spot on the top-10 list in Q3 2024.
The only other brand that found a place in the best-selling top 10 list was Xiaomi with Redmi 13C 4G at 9th position much like its predecessor.
Counterpoint analyzed that both Apple and Samsung dominated the smartphone market thanks to the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) on their smartphones. While iPhone models offer AI features with Apple Intelligence, Samsung handsets are powered by Galaxy AI.
“Apple and Samsung are further strengthening their premium positioning with Apple Intelligence and Galaxy AI, which will help them continue to dominate these rankings. Both brands are leveraging GenAI as a differentiating factor in the premium segment,” the report said.
Notably, for the first time in the third quarter, half of the total iPhone sales were contributed by the Pro variants in Q3- indicative of the rising demand for premium phones in emerging markets.
