Meta AI App Launched to Challenge OpenAI and Google in The AI Race
Meta reveals a standalone Meta AI app with smarter answers, AI glasses integration, and plans for paid features, directly taking on OpenAI and Google.

The parent company of Facebook Meta, has launched a new Meta AI assistant app to directly compete with OpenAI (backed by Microsoft) and Google. This new app is separate from the Meta AI assistant already available on platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
The point of this app is to get more people to use Meta AI and give them more unique answers. When you use the app, it will use information from your Facebook and Instagram accounts to give you more relevant and personalised answers. This shows that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, is trying to make the company stronger in the AI field, which is already dominated by big names like Google and OpenAI.
The new Meta AI app runs on Meta’s latest large language model (LLM) Llama 4. This model is designed to compete with the latest AI models from OpenAI, Google, Deepseek and Anthropic. Llama 4 offers better reasoning, supports multiple languages and it is more efficient, making it a strong competitor in AI field.
The new app will connect with Meta’s AI glasses and will work alongside the company’s existing companion app. Meta is also hosting LlamaCon, its first-ever AI developer conference, which will focus on the Llama family of AI models. This event will give more details about the company’s AI developments.
Meta wants to charge for the AI assistance upgrades. The company already said in February that the subscription service would start in the second quarter of the year. As per the reports, The service might not make a big profit until next year.
In September 2023, Meta AI made its debut. Large language models are used by this virtual assistant to assist with reasoning tasks. In the field of AI assistants, it is a crucial tool that enables users to receive more intelligent and effective assistance.
New Meta AI assistant app is a major step for the company, not just for its own platforms but also as a competitor to OpenAI and Google. Powered by Llama 4, the app will provide more personalized and context-based services to users. Meta is expanding its presence in the AI field with the addition of AI glasses and events like LlamaCon.
