TikTok’s return to the US is a setback for Chinese apps! New downloads have fallen sharply

TikTok was banned in January, after which downloads of some Chinese apps saw a rapid increase. After TikTok was banned, users started shifting to other apps. But this situation reversed after President Donald Trump lifted the ban on the app. The apps whose downloads had increased, after TikTok returned to the US, their users started leaving the app rapidly. Among the apps affected is Xiaohongshu, which was downloaded rapidly in the US. But now the opposite is happening. The number of users of the app started decreasing rapidly.

After the ban on TikTok was lifted in the US, it was made available again on the App Store and Google Play Store. After which users who shifted to other similar apps once again started running towards TikTok. In such a situation, new downloads of the Xiaohongshu app started decreasing rapidly. Xiaohongshu is also known as ‘Little Red Book’. According to the report, after TikTok was banned, this app reached the top of the Apple App Store chart. Its new users increased rapidly.

The best content on travel, fashion, beauty, and lifestyle is available on Xiaohongshu. At the time of the ban on TikTok, it already had 300 million users in China. Despite this, the number of app users grew rapidly in the US. But as soon as TikTok returned to the App Store and Google Play Store in the US, the downloads of Xiaohongshu fell by 91%.

Why wasTikTok banned?

Actually, like India, the US government was also considering TikTok a threat to its national security. According to reports, the US had given two options to TikTok’s parent company Bytedance. The first is that it should sell its business in the US to someone else. The second is that the company should stop its operations in the US by January 19, 2025. The app was removed from the app stores in the US a day before January 19. In such a situation, users started running towards other apps. But later the newly elected President of America, Donald Trump, gave relief to Bytedance and got the ban lifted.
