Nubia Z70 Ultra Review: Nubia continues to impress with its Redmagic gaming phones and unique Z series. The Z70 Ultra, like last year’s Z60 Ultra, has a bold design and a large AMOLED screen with no camera cutout, which is a big plus. It now comes with the latest Qualcomm chip and a larger 6150mAh battery. The 50MP camera features a 35mm lens and offers some unique extras.

The software is still clean, with minimal bloatware. Once again, Nubia delivers high-end hardware at a lower price than competitors.

Design:

The Z70 Ultra is large and heavy at 228g, with a smooth, fingerprint-resistant back. Its camera sticks out, causing a wobble. It has flat sides, a red power button, a shutter button, and a customizable slider. It also features a fingerprint scanner and is water-resistant (IP68/IP69).

Display:

The Z70 Ultra’s 6.85-inch AMOLED screen has no camera cutouts, making it great for streaming and gaming. The colors are vibrant, and it goes up to 144Hz refresh rate for gaming and 120Hz for everyday use. It also supports HDR10, and the stereo sound is loud enough for casual gaming.

Hardware and Battery Life:

The Z70 Ultra, powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite, runs smoothly with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, excelling in gaming. Its 6150mAh battery lasts 1.5 days, and it charges 50% in 15 minutes with 80W fast charging. It supports high-res AptX codecs and offers strong connectivity.

The Z70 Ultra has a 50MP main camera, 64MP telephoto with 2.7x zoom, and 50MP wide-angle lens. The 16MP front camera lacks autofocus. Daytime photos are good but sometimes off in color, and night shots are decent. The telephoto lens is great for portraits.

It runs Nebula AIOS with limited AI features. The software is clean and smooth but has memory management and notification issues. It gets three Android updates and security patches for three years.

Alternatives:

The OnePlus 13 offers better cameras and a more compact design. The Vivo X200 has better cameras but isn’t available in the West.
