Apple Eyes Integration Of Google Gemini AI In Latest Update

Apple might be planning to expand how Siri works with third-party AI services like Google Gemini. In December 2024, Apple added new features called Apple Intelligence to iPhones, iPads, and Macs with the iOS 18.2 update. This update also allowed users to send Siri questions to OpenAI’s ChatGPT for the first time. Now, according to a leak, Apple could also add Google’s AI models to the mix, offering more options for Siri users.

Apple’s Expansion of Siri with Third-Party AI Services Like Google Gemini

Apple may be planning to add Google’s AI models to its intelligence system. MacRumors analyst Aaron Perris shared this possibility in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He pointed out a screenshot from the iOS 18.4 beta that shows a new option for Google, alongside OpenAI, in the “Third-party model” section. This suggests that the tech company could be working on integrating Google’s Gemini AI. However, the code doesn’t provide further details, like which AI models will be used or what features they will have access to.

Leaked Code Shows Google as a New Option in Apple Intelligence

If this leak is accurate, it would line up with what Craig Federighi, the Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, mentioned at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024. He hinted that the tech company is planning to integrate various AI models, including OpenAI’s chatbot, and even mentioned Google Gemini, though he added, “Nothing to announce right now, but that’s our direction.”

However, despite the leak, it’s unlikely that Gemini AI models will be integrated anytime soon. Even though the code appeared in the iOS 18.4 beta update, it could take until the iPhone 17 series launches before Gemini features show up on all the devices. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also speculated last year that Apple might give OpenAI some exclusivity before adding other AI partners.

Right now, in addition to Siri, users can access ChatGPT through the company’s Intelligence’s Writing Tools. The compose feature lets users generate text, while it also allows them to create images using ChatGPT.
