Apple is preparing to launch two entry-level iPad models in the early months of 2025. According to sources, the new iPad 11th Gen is expected to come with Apple Intelligence features.
As per tipster, these iPad variants are speculated to use the same chip as the iPhone 15 Pro models. Earlier, multiple reports claimed that the device would feature A18 processor. With this, the device is purported to feature Apple Intelligence — the company’s latest software features that are powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
iPad 11th Gen to feature A17 Pro chipset
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurma, in the latest edition of his weekly Power On newsletter, the purported 11th generation iPad is expected to use the same A17 Pro chipset from the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. As of now, iPad Mini (7th Gen) which was launched in October 2024, A17 Pro chipset.

The news that Apple is looking beyond the A17 Pro chipset began surfacing following reported issues in the past. TSMC, which supplies SoC to was said to be struggling with the first generation 3nm N3B process due to high cost and low yields. Further, it did not offer a massive performance gain over its predecessor.

As a result, Apple was said to not use this chipset in its high-volume products, such as the base model of iPad 11th Gen. Notably, the company also refrained from using the said chipset in any of the iPhone 16 models and jumped to the A18 Pro chip built using the second-generation 3nm technology instead.
Now, it appears that Apple could make an aberration for the purported the new iPad 11th Gen. While the iPad Mini (7th Gen) is reportedly powered by a binned version of A17 Pro with a 5-core GPU, it remains unclear if the same variant will be used in the expected base iPad too.
