Snapdragon 8 Elite vs Dimensity 9400

The ever-growing smartphone market seems to be growing at a steady rate of 4% in 2024, with demand for better software increasing in the market. Let’s look at what are the most powerful software chipsets that are available in a smartphone as of now.

Software Chipsets are the real deal when it comes down to a phone’s performance and they provide the real juice which helps in producing the best-in-segment graphics along with an enriching experience.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite

The Snapdragon 8 Elite marks a shift in CPU architecture in favor of more performance while simultaneously boosting efficiency. The Snapdragon 8 Elite was launched in India on 3rd December 2024. The snapdragon 8 Elite runs on custom CPU cores called Oryon based on Arm architecture in contrast to earlier Arm’s Cortex series cores. It is a 3nm chip, with a more efficient GPU boasting of Adreno 830 like never before.

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400

MediaTek launched Dimensity 9400 on 9th October 2024. The Dimensity 9400, the fourth and latest in MediaTek’s flagship mobile SoC lineup, offers a massive boost in performance with its second-generation All Big Core design built on Arm’s v9.2 CPU architecture, combined with the most advanced GPU and NPU for extreme performance in a super power-efficient design.

It is also a 3nm processor with a customized structure for smoother gaming and better support for AI applications. The Dimensity 9400 is up to 40% more power-efficient than its predecessor, allowing users to enjoy longer battery life.

Two Oryon cores running at 4.32GHz and six Oryon cores running at 3.53GHz make up the CPU of the 8 Elite. The CPU architecture of the Dimensity 9400 is composed of four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.4GHz, three Cortex-X4 performance cores operating at 3.3GHz, and a Cortex-X925 large-core processor operating at 3.63GHz.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite boasts a hexagon NPU that performs 45% better than its predecessor for on-device AI operations while the Dimensity 9400 uses the MediaTek NPU 890, which is 35% more power efficient than its predecessor and provides 80% faster LLM prompt performance. The Snapdragon 8 Elite ships with Adreno 830 GPU, Dimensity 9400 throttles on Immortalis-G925 MC12.

The 8 Elite also has a better output at CPU tests that both have been put through, it shows that its Custom Oryon cores are better than the Arm’s cortex cores. The Oryon cores are also better at keeping the temperatures in check which is something Dimensity has not been able to hack it and Snapdragon has always had an edge over it.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 has already been featured in Vivo X200, Vivo X200 Pro, Oppo Find X8, Oppo Find X8 Pro whereas the Snapdragon 8 Elite can be seen on the Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro, iQOO 13, OnePlus 13 and Realme GT7 Pro.
