MediaTek has officially launched the latest flagship-tier smartphone processor Dimensity 9400 SoC. The tech giant claimed that the new system-on-chip (SoC) delivers 35 percent faster performance on a single core than its predecessor.
MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset is a fourth-generation flagship processor built with Arm’s v9.2 CPU architecture as well as dedicated GPU and neural processing unit (NPU) architectures. It is crafted on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm fabrication process.
The new MediTek’s Dimensity 9400 chip offers a wide range of support including advanced features such as on-device artificial intelligence (AI), support for generative AI-powered applications, hi-res lossless Bluetooth audio playback and tri-folding smartphones. The company claims that the Dimensity 9400 is up to 35% more power efficient and provides up to 41% enhanced performance and up to 15% faster CPU performance than the previous design.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC has its rivals in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and the Apple A18 series chipsets.
MediaTek Dimensity 9400: Features
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 features an octa-core processor with a speed of up to 3.63GHz. The newly launched chip incorporates the company’s second-generation Arm Cortex-X925 core, which offers up to 35% faster single core performance and up to 28% faster multi-core performance compared to the Dimensity 9300.
MediaTek claims that the CPU in the chip offers a touch response time of less than 100ms, which further supports up to 35% faster app launch speed compared to its predecessor. Additionally, it can also power LPDDR5X RAM.
MediaTek’s latest system-on-chip (SoC) also features support for a host of gaming-focused technologies. The Dimensity 9400 comes with a 12-core flagship graphics engine that uses Arm’s new fifth-generation GPU architecture to offer up to 41% faster peak performance, up to 40% faster raytracing performance and up to 44% power efficiency.
For an enriching gaming experience, it also supports technologies, such as MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0, MediaTek Frame Rate Converter and HyperEngine’s Super Resolution.
To support AI, the Dimensity 9400 is powered by the MediaTek NPU 890, which supports multiple LLMs (Large Language Models) and features such as on-device video generation and on-device AI training.
The Dimensity 9400 can back WQHD+ displays with a screen refresh rate of up to 180Hz and tri-port MIPI for tri-folding displays.
For the cameras, the new chipset comes with Imagiq 1090 ISP that supports up to 320MP camera with a maximum video capture resolution of 7690 x 4320 pixels. It also offers gen-AI Super Zoom functionality that can achieve up to 100X magnification in photos. Additionally, it packs full range HDR zoom with smooth zoom switching and sustained target autofocus capabilities.
On the audio front, Dimensity 9400 can facilitate up to six mic and 24-bit audio recording capabilities. It also supports AI Audio Focus and hi-res lossless audio at 2x sound sampling rate.
For connectivity, the chipset has tri-band Wi-Fi 7 with support for up to 30m greater Wi-Fi range, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, NavIC L5 and Dual SIM Dual Active, Dual Data mode for 5G and 4G network.
