Apple AirTag 2: Arriving months later than expected, the Apple AirTag 2 has finally made its debut. After earlier rumours suggested it would launch alongside the iPad Pro last October, Apple quietly revealed the second-generation Bluetooth tracker on Monday. It is already available to buy in the UK.

The new AirTag comes with a noticeably louder built-in speaker, a longer ultra-wideband range for Precision Finding, and support for newer Apple Watch models. While it is not a dramatic upgrade over the original, these small but meaningful improvements should make it easier to find misplaced items.

Over the past five years, Apple’s AirTag has become the go-to tracker for iPhone users. It quickly dominated the market, pushing rivals like Tile out of the spotlight and becoming the default option for tracking keys, bags, and more. With tens of millions sold, the AirTag reshaped the Bluetooth tracker space, and the AirTag 2 looks set to carry that momentum forward. Here is everything you need to know, from pricing to what is new.

Apple AirTag 2 pricing and availability

The Apple AirTag 2 is priced at £29 and is available directly from Apple.com. Multi-pack options are also available, just like before.

Apple AirTag 2: Same look, familiar accessories

At first glance, the AirTag 2 looks exactly the same as the original model. It still uses a CR2032 coin cell battery and works with all the same accessories designed for the first-generation AirTag. The real changes are found inside.

Apple says the AirTag 2 offers a longer tracking range thanks to its second-generation ultra-wideband chip. This is the same UWB chip found in the iPhone 17 lineup and newer Apple Watch models. There is also an upgraded Bluetooth radio, which helps nearby devices detect the AirTag from further away before Precision Finding activates. According to Apple, Precision Finding now works from up to 50 per cent farther than before.

Apple AirTag 2: Louder speaker and better tracking

One of the biggest complaints about the original AirTag was its very quiet speaker. Apple has addressed this with the AirTag 2. The company says the new speaker is around 50 per cent louder and can be heard from roughly twice the distance compared to the original model. This should make a noticeable difference when trying to locate an item nearby.

Another welcome update is expanded Apple Watch support. For the first time, the AirTag can be tracked directly from the Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. In short, any Apple Watch equipped with a second-generation UWB chip is supported.

Beyond these upgrades, the experience remains largely the same. Still, the improved range and louder speaker should make everyday use more convenient.

Apple AirTag 2: Pricing stays the same

Good news for buyers is that Apple has not increased the price. The AirTag 2 still costs £29 for a single tracker, while a four-pack is priced at £99. A full review of the AirTag 2 is expected soon.

Apple AirTag 2: Best Apple AirTag deals

With the launch of the AirTag 2, many retailers have started discounting the original AirTag. If you do not need the louder speaker or extended Precision Finding range, the first-generation model remains a solid option.

Apple AirTag pack of four

The original AirTag has earned praise for being waterproof, durable, and long-lasting. It continues to be a reliable choice for keeping track of everyday items.

Currently, a pack of four AirTags is available at a significantly reduced price on Amazon. The retailer has dropped the price to £69.99, which works out to about £17.49 per AirTag.

For any iPhone owner prone to losing things, investing in a pack of four might be one of the best decisions you ever make,” I wrote in my review. “Precision tracking works wonderfully well when you can get a signal, and the fact that it’s powered by removable batteries is a real bonus in my eyes.”
