In a move that could shake up the AI race, Anthropic has opened up some of Claude’s most advanced tools to everyone, without charging a subscription fee.

Until now, features like file creation, app integrations, and customizable workflows were mainly reserved for paid users of Claude. That wall has now come down. Free users can access tools that were once considered premium.

Claude is turning prompts into real work

One of the biggest additions is file creation. Users can now generate PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs, and Word documents directly inside a chat. Instead of copying and pasting text into another app, Claude can produce ready-to-use files in seconds.

For example, if someone needs a monthly budget sheet, they can describe what they want and get a spreadsheet with formulas already built in. If they need a presentation, they can outline the topic and receive a structured slide deck.

It’s the kind of feature that moves AI from “helpful assistant” to “actual productivity tool.”

AI that works inside your apps

Claude can also operate as an AI assistant for people who use different types of applications. For example, Claude can be used with applications like email, calendars, and graphic design applications like Canva. Instead of just providing recommendations for what to write or draw, Claude will assist you with completing tasks in these applications.

Another new feature called Skills allows users to set up specific training requirements for Claude to use when following templates or guidelines. Users can also save their settings so that they don’t have to repeat them every time they have a conversation with Claude. Claude will continue to learn to provide better assistance to you as time goes by.

Other AI platforms have provided similar personalization capabilities exclusively through guidance provided by an organization’s paid subscription. By providing the same features to the general public for free, Claude provides a major advancement in AI technology.

A Clear Contrast to Others

The timing is interesting. Other AI companies, including ChatGPT and Gemini, have been expanding paid tiers and experimenting with new ways to monetize their platforms.

By widening access instead of tightening it, Anthropic is sending a different message. It appears to be betting that making advanced tools widely available will attract more users and strengthen its position in the long run.

Raising the bar for free AI

For everyday users, these upgrades could change how often they rely on AI. Instead of using chatbots occasionally for quick answers, people may start depending on them for real tasks, organizing projects, drafting reports, building presentations, or managing schedules.

The move also raises expectations. If advanced tools are now free on one platform, users may begin to expect the same elsewhere.
