It’s anticipated that Samsung will release a completely new line of foldable smartphone styles in the near future to be sold alongside its prior Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8 phone models as an expansion to the company’s existing product offering.
According to reports leaked ahead of time by Samsung, the specific design features of these newly developed foldable smartphones are expected to look completely different from prior foldable smartphone offerings from Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 May Have Wider Design
The upcoming foldable, which may be named Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, is expected to move away from Samsung’s traditional tall and narrow form factor.
The company could adopt an alternative trajectory for the phone with a wider and shorter footprint that enhances usability when opened from its folded position.
A design change like this could transform the perception of the phone into something more like a small tablet rather than just a long phone, which is what users have requested over the course of several phone iterations.
Display
According to tipster UniverseIce, the new device will have a 4:3 aspect ratio on its internal display, a complete departure from what we’re used to seeing in smartphones.
And, although Apple has yet to put out an official announcement on its folding device, which is being called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra at present, there is speculation that Apple will also be doing something similar to Samsung’s new line of phones.
With the use of 4:3 for many years on the iPad line of devices, this aspect ratio creates a balanced view for people who read, browse and watch media on their iPads and avoids the use of as much black bar space around each image or video.
There have been several devices released with a similar look to the new iPhone in terms of aspect ratios, including the Huawei Pura X Max, which also provides a near 4:3 view for users.
Build and Dimensions
According to leaked dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, it is likely that Samsung is working to improve on the device’s usability and practical aspects by creating a slimmer profile. The dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide itself will be approximately 4.3mm thick when fully opened and 9.8mm thick when completely folded.
The thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will therefore be about 82.2mm wide and 123.9mm tall when it is closed; however, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be 161.4mm wide when it is opened.
The overall trend towards a wider foldable device will continue to grow as more manufacturers create similar products, and as Samsung is already aware of the direction the industry is heading, the company may focus on improving usability rather than just focusing on specifications.
If these leaked specifications are accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will have a more natural viewing experience while folding the device, particularly for users interested in reading, multitasking, and watching videos in an open state.
Samsung is likely to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series during the summer of 2026 at the annual Galaxy Unpacked event, where the company can officially announce its redesign plans.
