According to reports, Samsung may produce a new style of foldable phones to accompany its Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8 releases.
However, it appears the design characteristics of these foldables will dramatically change based on early leaks provided as potential samples from the company.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 May Have Wider Design
The upcoming foldable, informally dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, is expected to move away from Samsung’s traditional tall and narrow form factor. Instead, the company may adopt a shorter and wider design, aiming to improve usability when the device is unfolded.
This change could make the phone feel more like a compact tablet rather than an elongated screen, something users have been asking for over the past few generations.
Display
Tipster UniverseIce has leaked information suggesting that the upcoming device will have an inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. That’s quite a big change and one that feels very familiar to me, at least.
Apple is expected to follow a similar route with its foldable device, currently being called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra.
With the use of 4:3 for many years on the iPad line of devices, this aspect ratio creates a balanced view for people who read, browse and watch media on their iPads and avoids the use of as much black bar space around each image or video.
There have been several devices released with a similar look to the new iPhone in terms of aspect ratios, including the Huawei Pura X Max, which also provides a near 4:3 view for users.
Build and Dimensions
Leaked dimensions suggest Samsung is also focusing on making the device slimmer and more practical. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to measure around 4.3mm when unfolded and 9.8mm when folded.
In terms of size, it could be approximately 82.2mm wide and 123.9mm tall when folded, expanding to 161.4mm in width when opened. These numbers point towards a device that is wider and shorter than previous models, while also being thinner than some competitors.
The move towards a wider foldable design appears to be part of a larger industry trend. With Apple expected to enter the foldable space and other brands experimenting with new form factors, Samsung may be looking to stay ahead by refining usability rather than just pushing specs.
If these leaks hold true, Samsung’s next foldable could offer a more natural viewing experience when unfolded, especially for reading, multitasking and media consumption.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is expected to debut around July 2026 at a Galaxy Unpacked event, where Samsung could formally introduce its updated design direction.
