Samsung continues expanding long-term software support

Samsung’s software support policy has improved dramatically over the past two years, with the addition of 7 years’ worth of software updates for the Galaxy S26 series (with updates accruing until 2033).

This new software support policy for the S20 lineup that debuted in 2024 mirrors the addition of 7 years of software for Samsung’s flagship series.

The change to Samsung’s software support helps the company to compete more closely with Apple, which has almost always led the smartphone industry in long-term support.

How to check for the update

If your Galaxy device is eligible, you can manually check for the update by going to:

Settings> Software Update> Download and Install

Samsung noted that feature availability may vary depending on the device model and region.

The company is also continuing its aggressive AI push, with Galaxy AI tools now becoming central across newer Samsung phones alongside assistants like Google Gemini and Bixby.
