Galaxy Z Fold 7: Expected Changes And Improvements

Samsung is reportedly planning big changes for its next foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7. According to Jukanlosreve of ET News, the company might remove the S Pen to save space and make the phone more portable.
This change would make the phone thinner by about 0.6mm, bringing its folded thickness closer to 10mm. For comparison, the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 12.2mm thick, and the special edition Galaxy Z Fold SE (available in some Asian regions) is already 10.6mm thick.
Does this mean the end of the traditional S Pen in Samsung’s foldable phones? Not really. Reports say Samsung is working on a new S Pen that works more like the Apple Pencil, using an electrical field to interact with the phone instead of relying on a built-in digitizer in the screen.
As for the display, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to have an 8-inch internal screen, up from the 7.6 inches on the Z Fold 6. The outer cover display is also likely to grow to 6.5 inches, the same size as the Z Fold Special Edition.
The phone is expected to keep the same M13 OLED panel as the previous model, so any improvements in brightness or display quality may be limited.
Interestingly, this change comes around the same time as consumer complaints about the lack of Bluetooth in the S Pen for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This suggests that Samsung might be rethinking its approach to stylus technology across its entire product line.
Looking Ahead: Samsung’s Tri-Fold Concept for 2025
Samsung’s efforts to make its foldable phone slimmer come as competition in the market heats up. Devices like the Oppo Find N5, with a folded thickness of just 8.93mm, have raised expectations for more compact and sleek foldables.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to launch in August this year, although pricing details are still unknown. Samsung is also reportedly working on its first tri-fold smartphone, which could be released in 2025.
