But the reason behind Google’s success was a big mistake by Microsoft, which Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella regrets till date. Recently Nadella mentioned this big mistake in an interview.
Google took advantage of Microsoft’s mistake
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently participated in a podcast of YouTuber Dwarkesh Patel, in which he revealed a big secret about Google’s monopoly on the search engine. Nadella said, “We (Microsoft) could not become the biggest business model on the web, because we all believed that the web is only for distribution.” Satya Nadella said that because of this mistake, today Google has overtaken them in the search engine and he regrets this even today.
Failed to assess the business model
Microsoft CEO said that we felt that the search market would not become such a valuable business model, due to which we did not pay attention to it. We really did not see that Google was doing better than us in this. Nadella said, “This is a big lesson for us and we will not make such a mistake in future. Companies should also pay attention to where value creation is likely to happen.”
Satya Nadella further said that these changes in the business model usually invite big technological advancements. Continuously shifting the business model as compared to technology is also a big challenge for companies.
Mobile operating system flopped
Today, Google’s Android operating system (OS) works on 80 percent of the world’s smartphones. But let us tell you that in the year 2010, Microsoft also launched a mobile system named Windows 8.1. Its latest version Windows 10 Mobile was also launched, but it also proved to be a flop. It was not very successful in competition with Android and was finally discontinued in the beginning of 2020.
