Apple Intelligence Hits Home: Here’re The Public Beta Features In iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1

With the introduction of public betas, a selection of AI-powered features has been made accessible to users that were previously available only to developer betas.

Apple has released the public beta of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, which introduces Apple Intelligence features on eligible devices. The move gives users a chance to experience upcoming Apple Intelligence features before their official launch later this year.

With the introduction of public betas, a selection of AI-powered features has been made accessible to users that were previously available only to developer betas. 

Features 

Notification Summary: This feature generates summaries of multiple notifications from apps, grouping them together for quick glance. It also supports notifications from third-party apps.  A new feature in Safari’s Reader view also summarises text on web pages.  

Clean-up Tool: An AI-driven image editing tool allows removing unwanted objects from photos.

Redesigned Siri: Siri gets a revamped interface and enhanced natural language processing capabilities public beta update. It provides a more modern and engaging look.

Movie Memory: This feature uses AI to create videos from photos and videos on the device, depending on user descriptions.

Text Rewriting Tools: The upgraded feature allows for enhancements in writing and editing text across the system. AI-powered writing assistants such as Proofread, Rewrite, and Summarise are available in native apps like Notes, Mail, and Messages.  

Apple plans to roll out its Apple Intelligence tools in a phased manner over the coming months.

Some features such as ChatGPT integration, Genmoji, Image Playground (image generation) and an enhanced understanding of personal context by Siri will be released in future updates.

Accessibility 

Users keen on testing the betas can enroll in Apple’s Beta Software Program on the company’s website. Once enrolled, the beta updates will be available for download and installation through the device settings.

While the public betas makes these Apple Intelligence features available to all compatible Apple devices, enrolled in the public beta program, users will need to join a waitlist to access them.

Users must set their device and Siri language to US English to access these tools.
