Chinese tech giant Tencent has stepped into the AI market and launched its new AI model, “Hunyuan Turbo S”. The company claims that it is capable of giving faster answers than DeepSeek’s popular model R1. This move is a sign that DeepSeek’s growing influence domestically and internationally has put pressure on big Chinese tech companies.
Tencent’s Hunyuan Turbo S versus DeepSeek-R1
According to Tencent, Turbo S is capable of responding in less than a second, while other models, such as DeepSeek R1 and Hunyuan T1, take a little longer to respond. The company said that when this model was tested in the areas of knowledge, mathematics and reasoning, its abilities were found to be equal to DeepSeek-V3. It is worth noting that DeepSeek-V3 is the same AI model that has overtaken OpenAI’s ChatGPT in app store downloads
DeepSeek’s success puts pressure on Chinese AI companies
Tencent also said that the cost of using Turbo S is several times cheaper than earlier models. It is worth noting that DeepSeek’s open-source and low-price strategy has forced other Chinese AI companies to reduce the prices of their models. As per the recent reports by Reuters, DeepSeek AI is also planning to launch its new AI model in May, which is the DeepSeek R2 model.
This Chinese company, Tencent, has also invested in many companies across a variety of sectors, including gaming, social media, and cloud services, and companies like Riot Games and Supercell, who developed the games like League of Legends and Clash of Clans.
