Google TV Update Check Out the New Features and Content Additions

A significant update is on the way for Google TV that includes a variety of new content, enhancements in the user interface and experience, as well as new AI-powered apps and services, which are expected to greatly impact how people consume television content daily.

This new software will be available for all devices running Google TV via manufacturers. However, there will be differences between what each manufacturer offers with respect to hardware and software options.

Here’s a clear look at what’s coming.

New Features in Google TV Update

  1. Vertical videos on the home screen
You’ll start seeing vertical video content directly on the homepage. It begins with YouTube Shorts, letting users scroll and watch clips without opening apps.
  2. Personalised video feed
A new content rail will serve vertical videos based on your preferences. Over time, this could expand to platforms like Instagram and TikTok, making the TV interface feel more like a social feed.
  3. Vertical video push from streaming apps
Platforms like Netflix and Disney+ are also expected to bring vertical-style content, aligning with the new layout.
  4. AI-powered photo creation (Nano Banana)
Google is adding AI tools that can create and edit images. Using your Google Photos library, it can generate custom visuals featuring family members or pets.
  5. AI video creation with Veo
With Veo, users can create short video clips just by describing what they want. The system pulls faces and elements from your photo library to generate personalised videos.
  6. Voice search for photos
You’ll be able to search for specific images in your library using voice commands, making it easier to find old memories without scrolling endlessly.
  7. Google Photos Remix
Once you find a photo, you can transform it into different art styles using AI. Think filters, but much more advanced.
  8. Dynamic slideshow and screensaver
All your created images and original photos can be displayed in a new dynamic slideshow or set as a screensaver, turning your TV into a personalised display.

Which Devices Will Get the Update

This update will cover a wide range of devices running Google TV. This includes the Google TV Streamer and smart TVs from brands like Philips, TCL, Sony and Hisense. Devices such as the Thompson Go Cast 152 in the UK and Walmart’s Onn 4K streaming box in the US are also expected to receive the update.

Rollout Timeline

The update is set to begin rolling out in the US this summer, with other regions to follow later. Availability will vary depending on the device manufacturer, meaning not all features may arrive at the same time globally.

This update shows Google leaning into two big trends at once: short-form video and AI-driven personalisation.

Instead of just being a content hub, Google TV is moving toward a more interactive and customised experience.
