Tesla’s former AI director Andrej Karpathy has recently introduced a new term “Vibe Coding” in the world of coding. This is a unique method of coding, in which programmers completely adopt AI instead of writing code themselves and do not pay much attention to technical details. According to him, now coding is not limited to humans only, but it can be made easier in conjunction with AI tools.
How does vibe coding work?
Karpathy explains that he instructs AI to do small coding, such as adjusting the padding of a webpage’s sidebar. Usually, for such work, it is necessary to understand the nuances of coding, but in Vibe Coding, he approves AI’s suggestions without checking them. If there is an error in any code, he simply copies-pastes it and gives it to AI and AI fixes it automatically. He says that this method is very effective for small and experimental projects.
In these cases it may fail
However, Karpathy admits that this method does not work in every situation. In some cases, AI is unable to fix the bugs and then they have to make changes themselves. This method is not completely reliable for long and complex projects, but it can prove to be very useful for small and quick tasks.
