Mozilla Revises Firefox Privacy Policy After User Feedback
Mozilla updates Firefox terms after criticism, addressing concerns about user data privacy. The new policy clarifies data usage without compromising user ownership rights.

Mozilla Firefox changed its privacy policy, said- ‘We listen to our users seriously’
After all kinds of allegations from users, Mozilla has admitted that it welcomes people’s feedback. Mozilla is a non-profit organization. It has made changes to its new terms of use. In fact, last week Mozilla released new terms of use for Firefox, in which some such words were used which made it seem that the company was getting extensive ownership rights over the users’ data, i.e. the users’ data was being accessed.
The first version of these terms stated: “When you upload or input information through Firefox, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use your information to help you navigate, experience, and interact with online content through Firefox.”
This statement was strongly criticized by users on social media, which increased pressure on the company. Now this controversial clause has been removed from the new terms of use and replaced with additional clarification.
The revised terms now state, “You grant Mozilla the rights necessary to operate Firefox, including to store your data as described in the Firefox Privacy Notice, and a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use the content you enter into Firefox in any way you choose. This does not give Mozilla ownership of that content.”
Mozilla’s side
Mozilla explained that the legal definition of ‘selling data’ is broad and changing. Many companies are unclear whether they fall into the category of ‘selling data’. We heard users’ concerns, especially about the parts related to licensing. Our intention was just to clarify how Firefox works, but it caused some confusion and concern.
Overall, the company says that it is serious about user privacy and does not track users. Apart from this, it does not share users’ data with any third party agency nor does it trade the data.
