Apple is going to show us iOS 27 at its WWDC 2026 event on Monday. A new report says one of the changes will be how notifications look and work on iPhones.
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple wants to change how notifications appear and how we see the Notification Centre.
These changes will affect how we use notifications on our iPhones, which is something we do a lot. These changes are expected in iOS 27 from Apple, which will be introduced at WWDC 2026.
Notifications May Slide In From The Left
In these changes, instead of dropping down from the top of the display, notification in iPhone are expected to slide from the left side of the phone.
This change would mark a notable departure from the current notification animation that has been a staple of iOS for years.
While seemingly minor, the new approach could give iOS 27 a fresher feel and align with broader interface changes reportedly planned for the update.
As Gurman stated: “They now slide in from the left side of the screen, aligning with the new gesture system.”
Notification Center Gesture Could Change
Apple is changing how people get to the Notification Center. Right now, people open the Notification Center by swiping down from the top of the screen. Apple might use that same gesture for a new feature that uses artificial intelligence and is connected to Siri.
So people would have to swipe down from the left of the screen to see their notifications when the device is unlocked.
Gurman said that “Users swipe down from the left to open the Notification Center because swiping down from the center now opens the Search or Ask AI panel.”
The way people get to the Notification Center when the phone is locked will not change.
The changes, to the Notification Center seem to be connected to Apple’s Ask feature, which will be a big part of the next version of Siri.
If all rumours are true, this shows that Apple is really focused on putting intelligence into the iPhone operating system.
The Notification Center changes, and the new Ask feature are part of Apple’s plan to use artificial intelligence in the iPhone.
More Changes Rumoured For iOS 27
Beyond notifications, Gurman’s report suggests Apple is preparing several other updates for iOS 27.
The company is reportedly working on:
- A visual refresh for the Find My app
- Improvements to the Photos app’s Clean Up feature
- New AI-powered photo editing capabilities
One of the more intriguing additions being tested is natural language photo editing. The feature could allow users to make edits simply by typing or speaking commands.
So, with WWDC 2026 just around the corner, Apple is expected to officially showcase iOS 27 and detail its biggest new features.
