Netflix To Stop Working On Older Apple Devices
Notably, the latest update to the Netflix app for iOS includes a warning about the impending change in the operating system.
After discontinuing its service for the third generation Apple TV, Netflix has confirmed that it will soon end support for some old Apple devices including iPhones and iPads. In other words, the video-streaming platform will no longer provide updates compatible with devices running iOS 16.

Notably, the latest update to the Netflix app for iOS includes a warning about the impending change in the operating system.
On logging in to a Netflix account on older Apple devices, “We’ve updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, install iOS 17 or later,” reads an alert shown on devices running the Netflix app on iOS 16.
As for now, iOS 16 users can ignore the alert and continue using the Netflix app, but it will stop working in due course. However, the company has not yet confirmed the exact timeline for the support termination.
The Apple devices that cannot be updated to iOS 17 and later are as follows:
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
- iPad 5 (2017)
- 1st generation iPad Pro
The streaming tech giant will no longer offer updates compatible with the aforementioned devices operating on iOS 16. App updates are important as it not only adds new features, but also comes with bug fixes and security patches.
Netflix’s move to end support for older Apple devices is part of a broader plan to focus on newer software versions.
